Wix Code

As you already know, the mission of Wix is to allow anyone to manage their online presence from A to Z. In order to do so, the first step is to create the best possible website.

Last year, this vision drove us to launch Wix Artificial Design Intelligence (ADI), the first AI designed for website creation. This revolutionary solution allowed anyone to quickly get a unique website in the easiest way – by answering three simple questions – which is kind of awesome.

Today, forget (again) everything you’ve experienced before: after breaking the barriers of website building, we are now changing the game for web applications. We are thrilled to announce a new and outstanding product that will give you limitless freedom of creation.

Introducing Wix Code: a powerful solution to build sophisticated web applications of all kinds, in a fast and easy way.

What is Wix Code?

Wix Code enables you to build any web application you desire and to customize data and behavior of Wix components. You can easily create Dynamic Pages, collect user information, generate databases, make your site more interactive with custom interactions, use both Wix and third party APIs, and much more. Some of these technical terms might sound a bit scary but we’ll explain everything. The bottom line: Wix Code allows creation without limits.

But wait, that’s not all. Since it’s a part of the Wix OS, we take care of the hassle of setting up the infrastructure and maintaining web environments in order for you to enjoy a much better and faster creation experience. Groundbreaking, isn’t it?

“As we always strive to do, Wix enables innovation and creation. With Wix Code, we’ve already built the infrastructure and are providing a platform with the freedom and flexibility for users to create tailor made solutions. ” A. Abrahami, Wix CEO and Co-founder.

Don’t know a thing about coding? Worry not!

First, you don’t have to use Wix Code if you don’t want to – it won’t affect your current experience with the Wix Editor at all. But if you do want to give it a try, here is the most beautiful part: most features within Wix Code don’t require technical knowledge or coding. It might sound a bit theoretical, so why don’t we look at a concrete example?

Let’s say that you’re a chef and you want to display recipes on different pages of your website. Today, you have to manually duplicate your pages and copy-paste the text and pictures you want to include. With Wix Code, you can create a Database Collection – which is as simple as filling out a spreadsheet – where you gather all your recipes and images (or any other kind of content you need to display). Once it’s completed, you can set up a design template for one page that will adapt to each recipe in your collection. This is what we call: Dynamic Pages.

We mentioned above a bunch of amazing things you can achieve with Wix Code. Now, let’s get into some of them:

  • Database Collections: Collect and store content and user info in a database to use anywhere on your website.

  • Dynamic Pages: Set up a single design style, create hundreds of pages and update content in a click. Each individual page is created automatically with its own unique URL – SEO compatible, obviously.

  • Custom User Input Forms: Easily create application forms, quizzes, review sections and more to collect valuable user information.

  • Custom Interactions: Make your website more engaging by adding interactions to your page elements – like sliding, toggling, hovering and more.

  • APIs: Extend your website’s functionality with JavaScript and APIs. We’ve created internal APIs that are easy to use with a little coding knowledge or easily connect any external API. Customize the data and behavior of any Wix component – no HTML or CSS necessary.

To sum it up, Wix Code is empowering web professionals of all levels – not just coders. Whether you are a creator, a developer or a designer, this solution will allow you to do so much more!
